It's proving to be a quiet January transfer window for Liverpool, although fans will be frustrated that their club has decided against making one major signing.
The Reds now are set to miss out on Marc Guehi, with the defender on his way to Manchester City after a $27 million deal was agreed with Crystal Palace. Despite being short on options at the back, Liverpool is thought to not be planning a late attempt to try an hijack the move, despite having come close to his signature in the summer.
Arne Slot will hope that when one door closes, another will open, and his side may have just been given a big boost in the hunt for another defender.

Nico Schlotterbeck (Borussia Dortmund)
Bayern Munich has cooled its interest in Nico Schlotterbeck, according to Bayern Insider.
The Borussia Dortmund defender is considered to be too expensive, especially if Dayot Upamecano signs a new contract in Bavaria. It's claimed that Schlotterbeck would like a move to Munich, but Bayern isn't planning on making a move for him at the moment.
That could come as a boost to Liverpool. The Reds have also been linked with Schlotterbeck, and with Guehi now out of the picture, he may have risen up the list of center-back targets.

Liverpool.com says: Liverpool needs to have something else up its sleeve now, although if it isn't willing to spend $27M on Guehi, it's hard to see it going after anyone else this month.
We may have to wait until the summer for a new defender to be signed then, which would be an almighty risk. If there is an opportunity to sign someone like Schlotterbeck while Bayern has cooled its interest, then the Reds should take it while they can.
Givairo Read (Feyenoord)
Liverpool is interested in Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read, Christian Falk has claimed in the latest episode of Bild's podcast Bayern Insider.
The 19-year-old, who played under Slot in Rotterdam, was linked with the Reds earlier this week by reports on social media. Falk now backs up those claims, saying that the Reds and Manchester City could be Bayern Munich's main rivals for Read's signature.

The German giant is said to be targeting a summer move, with contact having already been made with the player, although Bayern doesn't feel in any rush to get a deal over the line this month.
Liverpool.com says: We already know Liverpool isn't going to be looking at a new right-back this month. Whether it goes down that route in the summer may well depend on Mohamed Salah.
If the Egyptian leaves, then you can imagine that Jeremie Frimpong might be promoted to become the new right-winger. In which case, having Conor Bradley as the only option at right-back once he returns would be very risky given his injury record, and maybe someone like Read could come into consideration.
