Liverpool appears likelier to make its next transfer move at a senior level in the summer than this month, though nothing can be completely ruled out. If the right player becomes available, the Reds have shown in the past that they are prepared to do deals.

Center-back seems like the obvious position to strengthen, but if Liverpool cannot sign Marc Guehi for a reasonable price, it makes sense to wait until the summer when he can be snapped up for free. The same goes for other positions: spending money now means that cash won't be there to splash when there are more options to choose from.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. We start with more links to a young winger excelling this season in Germany.

Yan Diomande

RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande only moved to the Bundesliga from the Spanish club Leganes in July, but he could move on at the end of the season amid interest from several teams, including Liverpool.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 19-year-old, who has scored seven goals and notched four assists in 17 matches so far this term, is likely to leave in the summer, but won't be on the move in January.

Leipzig does not need the money for Diomande now and would rather keep him. In the summer, there could be a longer list of teams in for him, which could make attaining a supposed price tag of around $115 million (£85 million) more realistic.

"I want to play at Anfield," Diomande said in a TikTok live stream last week. "I want to play for Liverpool. I’m a big Liverpool fan. My father’s dream is to see me play for Liverpool."

Liverpool.com says: Diomande looks like a big talent, but the price tag is huge. It seems unlikely that Liverpool would spend that much on such an unproven player, with more data required to highlight his true level.

Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace)

According to Sky Germany, Crystal Palace will demand as much as $54 million (£40 million) to let its captain, Marc Guehi, depart this month, even though the England ace can leave for nothing when his contract expires.

Oliver Glasner has already confirmed that Guehi will be leaving in 2026, whether that is in the next two weeks or the summer. The 25-year-old is not going to sign a contract extension.

Manchester City has been tipped to move for Guehi in the next couple of weeks because of injuries at the back to the likes of Josko Gvardiol, though there has been no bid from the Etihad Stadium yet. Arsenal is also keen.

Liverpool could wait until the summer, having come so close to securing him last September. A deal broke down at the very last minute when Crystal Palace couldn't source a replacement.

Liverpool.com says: Guehi would be an ideal option as a free agent, but there will be plenty of competition. Outside of Manchester City and Arsenal, several clubs around Europe are also interested, especially without there being a transfer fee.
