The transfer window is now closed, and Liverpool will have to wait until the summer now to make any more signings - although that won’t stop any rumors.

The Reds did make a late move on deadline day, with the signing of Jeremy Jacquet being confirmed after an $82 million (£60M) deal was agreed with Rennes. The defender though won’t pull on a Liverpool shirt until the summer as he heads back to France for the remainder of the season.

After a quiet winter window, Liverpool will inevitably have more business to do in the summer, and reports are suggesting it is already eyeing up one potential signing.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace)

Crystal Palace is expecting bids for Adam Wharton in the summer window, according to Football Insider, with Liverpool said to be keeping a close eye on the midfielder.

The Reds and Manchester United are both said to be looking at accelerating moves to sign Wharton in the summer, with the 21-year-old having stayed put at Selhurst Park despite speculation over his future in the January window.

Liverpool and United are described as the current favorites to land his signature, although Manchester City and Real Madrid are also said to want him.

Liverpool.com says: It does feel inevitable that Wharton will get a big transfer, and given the way things are going at Palace, it wouldn't be a surprise if he's on the move in the summer.

Whether Liverpool should be in the mix for his signing is up for debate. It would certainly chime in with some of the club's most recent additions, but midfield feels like it should be lower on the list of priorities. Even after Jacquet's signing, defense should be the first port of call, followed by the wide areas.

Andy Robertson (Liverpool)

Tottenham made a late call to Liverpool to see whether it could get a deal over the line for Andy Robertson before the transfer deadline, according to Sky Sports (via GiveMeSport).

Robertson was of course linked with a move to Spurs earlier in the window, with the north London club having brought forward its plans to sign him as a free agent in the summer.

An exit was ruled out amid Liverpool's growing injury list in defense, although that didn't stop Tottenham from checking in with the Reds again on deadline day to see whether their stance had changed - which it hadn't.

Liverpool.com says: The right call was made, eventually, to keep hold of Robertson. Letting him go at a time when options are running low at the back would have made next to no sense.

It does feel like we're entering the last few months of Robertson as a Liverpool player though. Milos Kerkez looks to be the first-choice left-back now, and the club has shown its hand somewhat, given it did seem to be open to the idea of selling Robertson at one point.
