Liverpool transfer news as Alexander Isak hopes ‘take hit’ due to Man Utd plans

Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak could hit a potential bump due to Manchester United’s transfer activity.

With the Reds’ pre-season tour of Asia now concluded, focus will soon turn to concluding the rest of Liverpool’s transfer activity. With the start of the 2025/26 season in sight and the window closing now a month away, that will also inevitably sharpen focus.

With six senior arrivals already this summer, Arne Slot’s squad is going to look and feel different this season - but more additions are expected. At center-back and on the wings, there are concerns about Liverpool’s depth, but it’s recruitment plans for strikers that have captured the imagination of supporters.

Liverpool fans are desperate to see Isak join before the end of the window, but it appears to be far from a straightforward process. In fact, the Daily Mail claims that Newcastle United target - and potential Isak replacement - Benjamin Sesko could be set to join Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

This would hugely impact Newcastle’s stance on selling Isak as the Magpies would only consider allowing the forward to leave if they had “replacements with at least one foot in the door.”

The Mail adds that, should Newcastle miss out on Sesko, an alternative option would need to be sought in the market. Yoane Wissa, Rodrigo Muniz, and Ollie Watkins have all emerged as potential targets for the north-east club.

The Athletic also claims United is “prioritizing” a move for Sesko and has “made informal contact” with RB Leipzig over a possible move.

Meanwhile, in a fresh twist, reports from Spainish outlet El Diario Vasco claim Isak is currently working at former club Real Sociedad in an effort to maintain his fitness levels and recover from the injury which supposedly prevented him from flying with the Newcastle squad on pre-season.

It comes as Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg states Liverpool and Isak have struck an agreement on personal terms.

“Alexander Isak has already reached a verbal agreement in principle with Liverpool over a contract running until 2031,” he wrote on X.

“Isak wants to make the move to [Liverpool] as early as this transfer window. The clubs are in contact. His salary at Liverpool would be similar to that of Hugo Ekitike’s.”

Fabrizio Romano added his contribution to the transfer saga, claiming that Isak “wants Liverpool,” while adding the Reds are waiting for Newcastle to indicate it is ready to receive an offer.

Either way, it’s a transfer story that continues to rumble on.
