Liverpool is enduring a challenging spell in the Premier League following the team's weekend loss to Bournemouth.

The Reds dropped out of the Champions League places as a consequence of Manchester United's triumph over Arsenal, while Arne Slot faces mounting scrutiny over his Anfield future. Slot remained defiant during his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool's Champions League encounter with Qarabag on Wednesday, with the Reds requiring victory against the Azerbaijan outfit to guarantee round of 16 qualification - thereby avoiding the two-legged playoff.

With Joe Gomez ruled out through injury and Ibrahima Konate unavailable due to compassionate leave, Liverpool's defensive resources are limited.

Virgil van Dijk is the sole recognized center-half at the disposal of the Reds. Consequently, Liverpool.com has examined some of the most recent transfer speculation.

Robertson plan emerges

Slot expects Andy Robertson to remain at Liverpool after talks collapsed regarding a January move to Tottenham.

Spurs had been tracking a possible deal for the Scotland captain this month, accelerating their interest from the summer window, as they look to rejuvenate their campaign in the season's latter half.

Robertson's contract runs out in the summer and he has acknowledged talks about a possible extension, though his minutes have been limited since the summer acquisition of Milos Kerkez.

Speaking on Tuesday, Slot said: "Robbo is part of the team tomorrow evening, and he has been a part of this squad for many years.

"Happy to have him, it's good that he's available because that's quite important for us at the moment, to have players available.

"Nothing happened my side. It's hard to say anything definite with the world we live in (whether he stays this month), but I expect him to say, yes."

Transfer exit close

According to The Athletic, Fabian Mrozek is close to a move to Major League Soccer outfit FC Cincinnati.

The goalkeeper is close to joining the MLS club on a temporary arrangement, with an obligation to make the move permanent. Mrozek, who spent time on loan at Forest Green Rovers in the National League last season, is anticipated to act as the club's third-choice goalkeeper.

Any permanent transfer would conclude the 22-year-old's six-year stint at the club following his switch from Polish outfit FC Wroclaw. Throughout that time, he has appeared 17 times for the U21s in Premier League 2.

FC Cincinnati finished second in the Eastern Conference and overall in the MLS last season before the team's MLS Cup semifinal exit at the hands of Lionel Messi's Inter Miami.
