Liverpool transfer news as concerning Marc Guehi talks held and $101M release clause planned

1 hour ago 20

You're never far from some transfer speculation with Liverpool, and the rumor mill will no doubt ramp up as we enter the international break.

Even after the summer's huge overhaul, Arne Slot's side continues to be linked with new players. The Reds boss will be more concerned with bedding in his most recent signings for the time being, with the likes of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak still trying to find their feet.

As the end of 2025 begins to draw into view though, Liverpool might well have its eyes on more business in the January window, especially if there's a chance of Marc Guehi being nabbed by a rival.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace)

Bayern Munich has held talks with Marc Guehi's representatives about a potential move to Germany, according to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg.

The Bundesliga giant is said to be looking "concretely" at the Crystal Palace defender in what could be a major blow to Liverpool's chances to signing him, having failed with a deadline day move last month.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl is a "big admirer" of Guehi, although whether a move is made will depend on what happens with Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae, with both linked with moves away.

Liverpool.com says: There was always a danger of another club coming and taking Guehi out from under Liverpool's nose after the Reds missed out on that deadline day deal.

You can't blame Guehi for weighing up his options, and he'll no doubt have plenty of them - getting a player of his caliber for free is an unbelievable deal. Hopefully Liverpool has done enough groundwork to stop his head being turned.

Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace)

Crystal Palace is planning to offer Adam Wharton a new contract that could include a release clause amid interest from Liverpool and Real Madrid, according to the Daily Mail.

It’s suggested that Palace would follow the blueprint it used for Eberechi Eze, having put a release clause in his contract before his eventual move to Arsenal. Should Wharton agree to the deal, he could be valued at around $101 million (£75M).

As well as Liverpool and Real, Chelsea and Manchester City are also said to be tracking the 21-year-old, while Bayern Munich scouts have made enquiries.

Liverpool.com says: Wharton will almost certainly get a big move soon, and at $101M, he would certainly be worth a look from Liverpool's perspective. Of course, a release clause would open the door for plenty of other clubs, so the Reds would have to weigh up how big a priority a new midfielder is.

If Wharton becomes available next summer, that might end up being a bit too soon for Liverpool, given defense and a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah might be next on the shopping list.
