Liverpool transfer news as Dayot Upamecano 'calls' made and Reds step up $120M chase

3 hours ago 27

The international break is almost over, and Liverpool's players will soon be turning their attentions back to domestic matters and getting their title challenge back on track.

Having fallen to three defeats before the break, Arne Slot will be hoping his side can return to winning ways against Manchester United on Sunday, although he has been given a number of injury scares ahead of the game.

Ryan Gravenberch has now added to his concerns, which also include Ibrahima Konate and Wataru Endo. With that in mind, a new defender might be called for in the January transfer window, with one potential option in high demand.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the latest transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds.

Dayot Upamecano (Bayern Munich)

Several clubs are making calls for Dayot Upamecano as Bayern Munich still has work to do to get him to sign a new deal at the club, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are all said to be in the market for a new defender in 2026, and competition is “becoming serious” for Upamecano. The French international’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current season.

Bayern, it’s claimed, will hold a meeting with the player’s agents, but while Upamecano is happy in Munich, the two parties still need to reach an agreement on financial terms, with his representatives wanting an “important” salary and signing-on fee.

Liverpool.com says: With both Upamecano and Marc Guehi potentially available for free next summer, there is real potential for Liverpool to pick up a serious coup.

Given the way things are going at the minute, both in terms of performances and injuries, the Reds should be looking at signing a new defender in January. If that means going early for one of Upamecano or Guehi, it will be a small price to pay for what could be a season-defining addition.

Kenan Yildiz (Juventus)

Liverpool is ready to step up its interest in Juventus forward Kenan Yildiz, according to reports in Turkey. The Reds’ scouts are said to have watched him during the international break, with the 20-year-old having scored twice in a 6-1 win over Bulgaria on Saturday.

Yildiz has been linked with Liverpool previously, and Turkish-football.com is now claiming the Reds have made preliminary enquiries to the player’s agents over a potential move next summer.

Juventus is reported to value Yildiz between $100 million and $120 million, which would be a big leap for the Reds to make, although his ability to play in a number of positions is seen as a major plus.

Liverpool.com says: There have been plenty of links with Yildiz for some time now, and if Liverpool is really interested in him, you can guarantee it won't be the only club eyeing him up.

$120M is a lot to be spending on a 20-year-old, so the Reds would need to be certain he is going to be a real star, and will be capable of adapting to the Premier League. He's certainly one to keep an eye on.
