Liverpool transfer news as talks will reportedly take place on Harvey Elliott with Aston Villa, while the Reds are said to be eyeing up a surprise solution after Alexander Isak's injury

The January transfer window is just a matter of days away now, and Liverpool might well be among the sides aiming to do some business in the New Year.
The Reds will be aiming to end 2025 on a high against Wolves later today, but Arne Slot will have to contend with a depleted squad as injuries continue to take their toll.
Alexander Isak’s broken leg comes as a big blow, and Liverpool may well look toward the transfer window as an opportunity to find a solution for his absence, while a decision could be about to be made on Harvey Elliott’s future.

Harvey Elliott (Aston Villa, on loan from Liverpool)
Fabrizio Romano claims that Liverpool is set for talks with Aston Villa to find a solution for Harvey Elliott, with the player “expected to return” to Anfield.
Elliott’s move to Villa Park has not worked out, despite the England U21 international having been expected to eventually complete a permanent move. He has been frozen out of Unai Emery’s squad, and it looks as though he won’t reach the 10 appearances needed for Villa to meet their obligation.
Liverpool is said to be “not happy” with the situation, and discussions are expected between the two clubs to find a way forward. Elliott is then expected to return to Merseyside, with the club wanting to assess the situation and decide what’s next for him.

Liverpool.com says: This whole saga has just been bizarre, and in the middle of it you have a player who just wants game time, but is being so unfairly treated.
Liverpool has every right to be angry with Villa. From the moment Elliott arrived there, it seemed as though Emery wasn't keen, and it's clear that it wasn't a signing the Villa boss wanted to make.
The only solution now must be to let Elliott return to Liverpool. It's not like he's guaranteed game time there either, but it will be a lot better for him than staying at a club that seems to be actively avoiding playing him.
Goncalo Ramos (PSG)
Goncalo Ramos is being considered as a short-term solution for Liverpool following Alexander Isak’s injury, according to Caught Offside.
It’s suggested that the Paris Saint-Germain striker is being looked at for a potential six-month loan, with the Reds feeling that he could slot in easily and offer plenty of intensity in pressing.
Ivan Toney and Dusan Vlahovic are also named as forwards admired by Liverpool, although both are said to be viewed more as long-term options rather than “quick January fixes”.

Liverpool.com says: It would be a huge surprise if Liverpool was to try and secure a short-term solution up front. It makes some degree of sense, although it just doesn't feel like the sort of deal the club would go for.
The suggestion that Liverpool might be looking at Toney and Vlahovic as long-term options makes even less sense. Two high-class strikers were bought just a few months ago, and the Reds aren't about to abandon one of them now just because he's picked up a long-term injury. Describing a 29-year-old Toney as a "long-term solution" feels like a stretch as well.
