The clock is ticking on the January transfer window, with only a matter days left for Liverpool to get any business done.

The Reds are yet to make any major signings this summer, and if Arne Slot’s recent comments are anything to go by, it doesn’t look like they’ll be dipping into the market before the window shuts on February 2.

Yet another injury in back line though might convince Liverpool to change its stance, with Jeremie Frimpong the latest to be added to a growing list of absentees, and the latest reports suggest there could be opportunity to make some inroads for a new defender.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Jeremy Jacquet (Rennes)

Jeremy Jacquet prefers a move to Chelsea, although the Blues are running out of time to get a deal done for the Rennes defender, Dharmesh Sheth has told Sky Sports News’ Transfer Talk show.

Recent reports have claimed that Liverpool is in a race with Chelsea for the 20-year-old, with Bayern Munich also involved. The Blues do seem to be leading the charge for his signature, and it is suggested that Jacquet wants the move to Stamford Bridge.

There seems to still be a disagreement between Chelsea and Rennes over a fee though, and Sheth indicates that Liverpool’s rival is running out of a time in this window before the race could be opened up again in the summer.

Liverpool.com says: If Jacquet wants a move to Chelsea, then you'd have to imagine it will find a way to get a deal over the line. Then again, we've seen what can happen when teams aren't on the same wavelength with a transfer after the Marc Guehi debacle.

If Chelsea can't get a deal done before the end of the window, then maybe it can be Liverpool's turn to pull a Manchester City and swoop in to take a rival's target. That might depend on the Reds beating the Blues to a place in the Champions League for next season though.

Eduardo Camavinga (Real Madrid)

Liverpool is considering a bid for Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, according to Caught Offside.

The Reds’ interest in the French international is claimed to be “serious”, although there is some discrepancy when it comes to a potential fee. It’s suggested that he could cost between €80 million ($96M) and €100 million ($120M), but some sources are said to have ruled out a sale at any price.

Liverpool is said to be keen to add depth in order to ease the pressure on Ryan Gravenberch, while it’s claimed there are doubts over Curtis Jones’ long-term future. Arsenal is also named as a club that could enter the race for Camavinga.

Liverpool.com says: It feels like Camavinga gets linked to Liverpool every few weeks, and every time there isn't much to the claims. This feels like much of the same.

Camavinga would be a great signing, but the likelihood of it happening are so remote that there's no use in getting your hopes up. Liverpool has much more pressing areas to deal with than midfield in any case.
