Liverpool is being linked with a stunning move for Carlos Baleba, three years after the Reds missed out on another prodigious Brighton midfielder.

In 2023, Liverpool attempted to sign Moises Caicedo from the Seagulls, but the player ended up moving to Chelsea for what was a British record transfer fee at the time. Now, it's claimed that the player who has succeeded Caicedo in the Brighton midfield – Baleba – has emerged as a possible target for Liverpool in 2026.

Caught Offside says that Baleba could cost up to €100 million ($117 million), while it is claimed that a host of clubs, including Spurs and Bayern Munich, are also interested in the Cameroon international.

Manchester United is the team that has been most strongly linked with a swoop for Baleba.

The player has endured a difficult season after emerging as one of the Premier League's most exciting young midfielders during the 2024-25 campaign.

Brighton is said to have received multiple enquiries over Baleba's availability going into the January transfer window, but it is unlikely that he will be sold mid-season.

It seems unlikely, though, that Brighton will be able to keep hold of Baleba for much longer than the remainder of the campaign.

There have been suggestions that some of Baleba's disappointing performances since the start of the season have come as a result of him taking his eye off the ball – metaphorically speaking – after missing out on a big move last summer.

United was interested in Baleba in 2025.

But the Red Devils ultimately prioritized strengthening their attack with the additions of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

Meanwhile, The Times reports that Liverpool is keen to start discussions with Ryan Gravenberch over a new contract.

The Dutch midfielder is halfway through the five-year contract that he signed when he moved to Anfield from Bayern Munich in 2023, and his brilliant performances have left Liverpool keen to tie him down to a longer deal on improved terms.

Formal talks between Liverpool and Gravenberch are yet to start, but there is an appetite from the Reds to keep hold of the midfielder.

Gravenberch has been exceptional for Liverpool since the arrival of Arne Slot, establishing himself as one of the most important players in the Liverpool squad with his consistently good performances over the last 18 months.
