Liverpool transfer news as Rodrygo asking price revealed and Julian Alvarez 'frustrated'

1 day ago 34

Julian Alvarez is reportedly frustrated with his role at Atletico Madrid, which could open the door for a move to Liverpool.

Alvarez has been linked with a move to Anfield in recent months, despite only securing a move to Atletico from Manchester City last summer.

Liverpool remains interested in signing a new striker, after selling Darwin Nunez to Al-Hilal earlier this month, while Diogo Jota's tragic death means the Reds are without their two main strikers from last season.

Hugo Ekitike arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt and has made a brilliant early impression, but he needs support, which would ideally come from Alexander Isak.

However, Newcastle is unlikely to sell Isak before the transfer window closes in a week's time, so Liverpool may have to pivot to alternative targets — one of which could be Alvarez.

Anfield Index references reports in Spain which say Alvarez is unhappy with being asked to play out of position by Atleti manager Diego Simeone, while his entourage reportedly questions whether he picked the right club to join after leaving City.

Atletico values Alvarez highly, and he has recorded 38 goal contributions in 59 appearances, so he would not come cheap, although he would certainly not be as expensive as Isak.

Meanwhile, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano gave an update on the future of Brazil and Real Madrid star Rodrygo, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool.

He said that Madrid is likely to command a fee in excess of $115 million for the winger, who made only his second start under new Madrid boss Xabi Alonso on Sunday as Los Blancos beat Real Oviedo 3-0.

Rodrygo could leave Real Madrid

Romano was actually reporting in relation to Manchester City being linked with Rodrygo, and it sounds as though it could be a tricky deal to do.

“My feeling is that for Man City, the only way to open doors for Savinho to go is if they find the right replacement," Romano said.

“The player they want remains Rodrygo from Real Madrid but Rodrygo is very expensive – more than €100m [£86.6m]. He has a big salary, Rodrygo is very happy at Real Madrid, so it’s a deal to build.

“I always told you about Man City wanting Rodrygo, but you have to build this one. By ‘build’ I mean salary, convincing the player, and also the fee for Real Madrid. This is not something you close in 24 hours.”
