Liverpool has experienced a subdued January transfer window thus far - but there remains scope for late excitement before Monday's deadline.

With merely hours left on the clock, Premier League clubs are scrambling to bolster their squads ahead of the campaign's concluding stages. In reality, almost all of the Reds' business this month has revolved around their academy prospects.

The only fresh face through the door has been 18-year-old defender Mor Talla Ndiaye, who has arrived at the club's academy from Senegalese side Amitie FC. The teenager's signing wasn't exactly what Liverpool fans had in mind, given the defensive injury concerns, but the talented youngster might prove to be shrewd business in the long run.

Regarding exits, the club has approved multiple loan deals, with the exception of James Norris, who secured a permanent transfer to Shelbourne Rovers.

Luke Chambers has departed on loan to Charlton until the season's end, while Lewis Koumas headed to Hull following the early termination of his loan stint at Birmingham City this campaign.

Liverpool has brought back two players, with James Balagizi returning from Forest Green Rovers after struggling with injuries, while Owen Beck has also headed back to Anfield following an injury-plagued stint at Derby, where he failed to make a single appearance.

With Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni all sidelined, defensive reinforcements should be a top priority for the Reds as they seek to strengthen their squad quickly.

The Reds have held talks about a loan move for defender Lutsharel Geertruida, but it's highly unlikely Sunderland will cancel his loan deal from RB Leipzig and pave the way for Liverpool to complete a last-minute deal.

A deal that should be finalized, however, is the capture of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, though the young defender won't arrive at Anfield until the summer. The Reds have secured a pre-contract agreement, which could end up costly them around $82 million.

Liverpool has no plans to offload any senior players before the window shuts, despite recent reports from Italy suggesting Inter Milan was prepared to offer a loan deal with an option for a permanent transfer for Curtis Jones. The same cannot be said for some of the club's academy prospects, however.

Kieran Morrison and Wellity Lucky, who both made their senior debuts in the EFL Cup earlier this season, could be seeking moves elsewhere as they pursue regular first-team opportunities.

Despite Joe Gomez's struggles with consistent fitness, he has remained a crucial member of Liverpool's first-team squad.

Newcastle came within touching distance of signing him in 2024 as part of an arrangement that would have brought Anthony Gordon back to Merseyside, but Liverpool's unwillingness to part with senior players this month means he should remain at Anfield for the rest of the season at minimum.

Regardless of what unfolds, the chaos and excitement of Deadline Day is bound to affect Anfield just as much as it will the rest of the Premier League.
