Liverpool transfer state of play as 5 more could leave amid Alexander Isak plans

1 day ago 43

With less than three weeks to go until the transfer window shuts, Liverpool looks set to do more business as an already hectic summer becomes even busier.

Arne Slot's attention will of course be on the start of the new Premier League season this week, but behind the scenes, sporting director Richard Hughes will be working away on more deals.

Already this summer, we've seen six new signings in Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, along with goalkeepers Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman, while Giorgi Mamardashvili has finally arrived after agreeing his move from Valencia last year.

And there have been plenty of outgoings too, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah, Nat Phillips, Tyler Morton, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez all permanently leaving the club, while goalkeepers Vitezslav Jaros and Harvey Davies have headed out on loan.

But the Reds aren't done there, and we can expect more incomings and outgoings before the window shuts on September 1. Here's an overview of the current transfer state of play at Liverpool.

Potential exits

It's almost certain that Liverpool will offload more players before the end of the transfer window, and Kostas Tsimikas looks as though he could be the next player to make way.

The left-back was left out of the squad for the Community Shield on Sunday as interest grows over a transfer. Nottingham Forest has been linked with him this summer, as has Leeds United, but there are a number of Premier League teams and overseas clubs keen.

Harvey Elliott could also be on the move, with RB Leipzig being linked with his services. It has been reported this month by The Athletic that Liverpool could accept $53 million for Elliott on the condition that a buy-back clause is included in the deal. If the buying club is not interested in including a buy-back clause in the deal, it is reported that Liverpool's asking price for Elliott would rise to $66 million.

Federico Chiesa's future is an intriguing subject. After being left out of the tour to Asia, it did seem an exit could be on the cards, especially amid ongoing links with a return to Italy.

Slot though made a point of mentioning him among his forward options ahead of the Community Shield, and with Diaz and Nunez having departed, it does seem as though the Italian might now stay put.

Meanwhile, two more of the club's youngsters could be on the move. Leeds is said to be considering a move for Ben Doak, while Stefan Bajcetic has been linked with clubs in Spain and with Celtic as Liverpool could potentially make the midfielder available for a loan, although injury problems could complicate matters.

Possible signings

We of course can't talk about possible signings without discussing Alexander Isak. The Newcastle striker has been dominating headlines for weeks now, and it certainly seems he wants the move to Anfield.

Whether that happens could well come down to two factors - Newcastle signing one or two new forwards, and Liverpool being willing to increase its first offer of $146M.

The first point is especially significant, given reports coming out of the north-east are suggesting the Magpies' options are running low, given they've already failed to sign Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Benjamin Sesko this summer. With time running out, all eyes will be on St James' Park to see whether any new strikers do arrive.

Marc Guehi could leave Crystal Palace this summer

Meanwhile, Liverpool has another big priority to sort - a new center-back. Marc Guehi would appear to be the favorite in that department, and Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish's admission that it may have to sell before the end of the window will encourage Reds fans.

Liverpool though may be hesitant to make a move for Guehi too soon, given he will be out of contract next summer, and hence available for free. If he is to make the move to Anfield before the end of the current window, expect it to be a late deal.

As for alternatives to Guehi, Giovanni Leoni is one of the more prominent names being touted, with Fabrizio Romano claiming Liverpool is building on its interest. Keep your eyes peeled, because the Reds are far from done in this window.
