A centre-back, who has been linked heavily with a move to Tottenham Hotspur since the start of the summer, faces an uncertain future at his club.

It has been widely reported that Tottenham want to add to their stocks at centre-back in the January window, with several Premier League defenders on the Lilywhites’ radar.

Over the last few weeks, several sources have suggested that the Spurs might reignite their interest in a central defender whom they showed an interest in during the summer.

It has been alleged that Tottenham explored a move for Nathan Collins in the summer, but the Republic of Ireland international did not follow Thomas Frank to N17.

Spurs are expected to try again to land the Brentford captain in January, with the Tottenham head coach said to be keen to reunite with the 24-year-old.

Journalist provides update on Tottenham’s pursuit of Nathan Collins

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has now confirmed that Spurs did signal an interest in the Bees star during the summer, while he also suggested Anfield as a possible destination for the player.

He adds that the centre-back’s future at Gtech Community Stadium is far from set in stone, with a move to a bigger club potentially on the cards next summer.

When asked about the reports linking Collins with a move to Spurs, O’Rourke told Football Insider: “They [Brentford] don’t want to lose Nathan Collins. As you said, there was a bit of interest in the summer from Tottenham. Liverpool were mentioned as well, as they were looking at a centre-back.

“If he continues to impress for Brentford and as he’s shown already at such a young age, he’s got those leadership qualities as well, being captain at the club, I’m sure there’ll be clubs monitoring the situation and maybe in the summertime there could be further interest in him.”

Brentford have already made a decision on Nathan Collins

While Spurs may be eyeing a move for the Irishman in the upcoming transfer window, they have been told to forget about signing the player mid-season.

This was according to a recent update by TEAMtalk, which claimed that Brentford have issued a strong ‘hands off’ message to Spurs regarding Collins.

Having already lost Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa in the summer, the West London club are not expected to entertain any offers for their key players in January.
