Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League campaign kicks off very soon, and the fixture list shows that Thomas Frank’s men face a real challenge, with some big European fixtures sandwiched between tough Premier League matches.
Tottenham found out their Champions League league phase opponents last week, and while there are some tough fixtures in there, overall it was a fairly favourable draw.
Spurs fans believe their side has a great chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League on the back of their draw.
However, there are no easy games in Europe’s premier club competition, and Thomas Frank’s men will have to navigate a challenging schedule over the coming months.
With the Champions League in its new format, involving eight matches instead of the previous six, the Lilywhites will have to play twice a week, nearly every week, over the next few months.
Tottenham’s tricky Premier League and Champions League schedule
Spurs have a relatively straightforward start to their Champions League campaign, starting at home to Villarreal and then travelling to Bodo/Glimt and Monaco, before hosting Copenhagen.
If the North Londoners can win their first four games, they will put themselves in a great position to qualify for the knockout stages.
However, the challenge for Spurs would be rotating their squad efficiently through the league phase, with the European clashes being interrupted by some tough Premier League fixtures.
Thomas Frank has set Tottenham the aim of being competitive in all four competitions, and he will have to use his resources smartly to achieve that goal.

Why Spurs’ fixture list could make or break them
Overall, one has to say that Spurs’ fixture list is relatively kind, with fairly winnable games preceding and succeeding their Champions League fixtures, with the only exception being back-to-back trips to the Emirates and Parc des Princes.
The fixture list could have been worse for Spurs, and the ordering of the club’s Champions League fixtures is both good news and bad news for the club.
Spurs’ four toughest European fixtures are their last four, with their opening four being the easiest on paper. That is great news for Frank’s men if they win their first four games.
However, should they start the tournament poorly, they will be in a lot of trouble, as it is going to be difficult for them to get more than six points from their final four league phase fixtures.
