Luis Diaz seems unfazed by Florian Wirtz taking over his No. 7 shirt at Liverpool following his big-money switch to Bayern Munich earlier in the week.
The Colombian forward wrapped up his three-and-a-half-year spell at Anfield on Wednesday, heading off to Bavaria to join the Bundesliga giants. Initially hesitant to let the 28-year-old go this summer after his pivotal role in the previous season's Premier League victory, Liverpool eventually caved after failing to secure Diaz on a new deal, accepting a second offer from Bayern Munich.
Then, mere days post-Diaz's departure, Wirtz, who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in a record deal, was unveiled as the Reds' fresh No. 7 with the release of the 2025/26 season kits on Friday.
Wirtz took to Instagram to share snaps of himself donning the new home and away strips – crafted by Adidas – captioning it: "When dreams become reality. Come on Liverpool x adidasfootball!".
The post garnered 'likes' from several of his new colleagues, including Ibrahima Konate and Alexis Mac Allister. Yet, what caught the eye was Diaz's 'like', coming just a few days after his Anfield exit.
Moreover, this wasn't the first instance of Diaz subtly acknowledging Wirtz this week, as the Colombian disclosed on Thursday that he had consulted the German international before making the move to Bayern Munich.
"I know what kind of football is played here," the ex-Liverpool striker remarked during his introduction this week. "Florian told me that the Bundesliga has a high-intensity, comparable to the Premier League. The stadiums are always full. Florian wished me a lot of luck."
After confirming his exit, Diaz penned an emotional farewell message to Liverpool supporters, with a final tribute to Diogo Jota.
He wrote: "Three years and a half that I’ll treasure forever. I arrived with all the dreams in the world, and I am leaving proud of everything we achieved together.
"I have met incredible people, fabulous colleagues, coaches who helped me a lot, and extraordinary fans. Liverpool is, indeed, a special team, and I will keep everyone in my heart. The cycle ends here, and it is so gratifying to look back and realize how happy we were.
"Not only because of the trophies we won, but for the union and friendship that made it all possible. There were ups and downs, as there always are, but there was always truth.
"As it should be in a family. It’s good to be leaving with the feeling of a duty fulfilled, and, most of all, to be leaving a champion. It would have been the perfect goodbye if we hadn’t lost one of ours in such a tragic way.
"As I said, and I repeat, I carry everyone with me in my heart, but one of them in particular: Diogo. I will never forget him. We will never forget him. Thank you for everything."
