Luis Diaz has made a bold statement to his former club Liverpool with his recent display for Bayern Munich.
The Colombian international bid farewell to Anfield during the summer transfer window, joining the Bundesliga giants. After much conjecture, Liverpool finally settled on a $88 million agreement for Diaz to move to Bayern. Diaz played a key role in clinching the Premier League title for the Reds last season before opting for a new challenge.
Liverpool initially signed Diaz from Porto in January 2022, and he spent a fruitful three-and-a-half years at Anfield, bagging four major trophies during his tenure. Diaz netted 41 goals in 148 appearances for the Reds before deciding to embark on a new journey in Germany in the summer.
Since leaving Merseyside, Diaz has hit the ground running in Germany, scoring six goals and setting up four more for the current Bundesliga champions. The 28-year-old found the back of the net twice for Bayern in their 3-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Diaz's first goal was netted just 14 seconds into the match, while his second came in the 84th minute. Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane also scored for Bayern against Frankfurt.
Post-match, Diaz took to Instagram to share a message after playing a crucial part in Bayern's win. The former Liverpool star posted a photo of himself celebrating a goal, initially shared by Bayern's official account, accompanied by a caption featuring a lightning bolt and a red heart.
Diaz's brace for Bayern coincided with Liverpool's 2-1 loss to Chelsea in the Premier League, marking their third consecutive defeat in all competitions following earlier losses to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray.
Arne Slot's squad is finding it difficult to emulate the attacking prowess they demonstrated last season, after a significant reshuffle during the summer transfer window.
The Reds currently sit in second place in the league table, just one point behind league leaders Arsenal as we approach the international break.
Liverpool's next fixture will pit them against Manchester United in a fortnight, following the end of the October international break.
