Luka Vuskovic has been working on his main ‘weakness’ ahead of Tottenham return

Luka Vuskovic has revealed one aspect of his game he has been working hard on at Hamburg this season, ahead of his return to Tottenham in the summer.

The Spurs centre-back has established a reputation as one of the best young defenders in Europe, showing incredible consistency across his loan spell at HSV so far.

Many expect Vuskovic to be a regular starter under Roberto De Zerbi at Tottenham next season, but the Premier League will pose very different challenges to the 19-year-old than the Bundesliga.

However, the teenager is certainly not resting on his laurels and is working hard to address the shortcomings in his game.

Tottenham starlet Luka Vuskovic is working with a private coach to increase his pace

The Spurs star has been dominant when it comes to aerial and ground duels this season, but he has confessed that his speed across the pitch is his weakness.

That may be something that affects his prospects at Spurs, given De Zerbi’s preference for a high defensive line, but Vuskovic has now revealed that he is working with a private coach to improve his sprinting.

The teenager told Frankfurter Allgemeine: “I know my weaknesses. I’ve been training with a private coach for a while now to work on my speed. As a footballer, you don’t have to be a 100m sprinter, but a good start definitely helps.

“I’m constantly trying to improve my timing in certain situations. I often act on instinct, but some things just take practice. There used to be situations I wanted to anticipate, but sometimes I started too early, and sometimes too late. It’s slowly getting better.

“That’s especially key against fast and skilful strikers. If I know I can’t catch my opponent, it can sometimes help if I take a step forward so he’s offside.”

Vuskovic’s injury is more serious than initially thought

The centre-back has missed Hamburg’s last two games with a knee injury and is not back in training yet.

In fact, it was reported by Bild recently that Vuskovic’s knee joint is more severely damaged than initially suspected.

According to reports, the Tottenham medical team are in contact with Hamburg about Vuskovic’s rehabilitation, with the centre-back not expected to feature for the German side until Spurs give the green light.
