Madueke and Odegaard start as Gyokeres dropped – Four Arsenal changes for Everton trip

Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres could both be dropped for Arsenal's trip to Everton this weekend.

Arsenal are preparing to face Everton in the Premier League this weekend with a big response needed following the concerning performance against Wolves. Despite winning the game, narrowly, the Gunners had to rely on a late own goal to claim all three points against the division’s bottom club.

It sparked a frustrating reaction from both fans and the players as Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice made their feelings clear after the game. Mikel Arteta has enjoyed a first midweek off from action for the first time since the week of August 25.

Arteta is able to make several changes for the game, some obvious, some more debatable. Riccardo Calafiori has served his one-match ban, while Ben White’s injury means he is almost certainly going to be the one to make way from the starting back four against Wolves.

Eberechi Eze was largely ineffective against Wolves and, therefore, prompts the return of captain Martin Odegaard to the starting 11. After Eze’s struggles on the left at Aston Villa, it wouldn’t make sense necessarily to move him there either for this away trip.

Noni Madueke has been given a full ten-day break after his brilliant brace in Brugge and comes into the left flank. Bukayo Saka almost single-handedly won the game against Wolves and is undroppable for Arteta.

The big call is at centre-forward, where Viktor Gyokeres came off after blanking in his fifth consecutive appearance. Gabriel Jesus was crucial to the winning goal, forcing the own goal from Yerson Mosquera and has impressed in his two cameos since returning and therefore could be in with a chance to start on Merseyside.
