Chelsea defender Malo Gusto scored the opener against Wolves on Saturday evening and the defender could not hide his delight after the full-time whistle

Malo Gusto has revealed Chelsea's objective this season is to finish in the top four after the defender scored his first goal for the club in the Blues' 3-0 victory over Wolves.

The Frenchman headed his first career goal early in the second half before Joao Pedro and Pedro Neto ensured a comfortable evening for Enzo Maresca's side. The result propelled the Blues into second and six points behind league leaders Arsenal ahead of the November international break.

Speaking after the match, Gusto could not hide his delight after scoring his first goal for the west Londoners after 98 appearances. "It’s been a long time since I came here, and this is only the beginning," the right-back said of his goal. "I’m very proud. I’ve been waiting for this one! I’m very happy for me, my family and the fans.

"It was a big win. The performance was really important for us before the international break, and we are here for the top four – that is our objective – and we will keep going and keep fighting.

"For my goal, it was our plan to bring players into the box. It was the key, we showed that today, and I’m very happy for the team."

Chelsea struggled to break Wolves down in the first half but a simple message by Maresca at the break helped the squad in the second period. "In the first half, we struggled a lot to find space between the lines, but in the second half we were much better," Gusto said.

"The manager said at half-time to be patient, the chance will arrive, and we found our players much easier, and I think that’s how we scored the first goal."

Chelsea's players will now jet off across the world as we enter yet another international break. Chelsea will travel to Burnley on November 22 after the break and Gusto recognises how important momentum will be heading into this busy part of the schedule.

"We won our last Premier League game against Tottenham, which was important, and now against Wolves, it was a tough game, but we got the job done tonight, so let’s keep pushing," he said.

"We have to keep building something between us as a group."
