Man City and Arsenal's next fixtures and full run-in compared after surprise title race twist

Arsenal were beaten 2-1 by Bournemouth on Saturday, a result that gives Manchester City renewed hope in the Premier League title race

Manchester City have been handed a major boost in the Premier League title race after Arsenal’s 2–1 home defeat to Bournemouth ahead of Sunday's clash with Chelsea. The visitors struck first after 17 minutes before Viktor Gyokeres levelled from the penalty spot.

But the decisive moment came in the 74th minute when Alex Scott drilled in the winner for Andoni Iraola's side, who have now gone 12 league matches unbeaten. It was Arsenal's second loss in their last five Premier League outings at the Emirates, while the Cherries have now claimed victory on both of their last two top-flight visits to north London.

Reflecting on the result, Mikel Arteta said: "Disappointing. It's a big punch in the face and it's about how we react now. They are a team who haven't lost for 11 games for a reason, they did a lot right.

"We were far from efficient. The first chance they had to attack the box, it's a deflection, a bad defending action and it's a goal. That's something we have to recover from. The second half you expect a different game.

"We did a lot of strange things today. We have been very consistent. This can happen, this is football."

The result has handed City huge motivation with a win closing the gap to six points, though they still have the game in hand to Crystal Palace and will host Arsenal at the Etihad next week.

As for Arsenal, attention will now shift to the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Sporting Clube de Portugal. Arteta's men secured a vital 1-0 advantage away in Lisbon, thanks to Kai Havertz's stoppage-time strike.

With that in mind, the Manchester Evening News has examined City's remaining fixture list alongside Arteta's side.
