Man City are not expected to let forgotten £27m man join Tottenham in January

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing a Manchester City man, who has only made three Premier League appearances this season, but a deal may not be easy to do in January.

It has been widely reported that Tottenham are scouring the market for a new goalkeeper ahead of the January window.

There has been plenty of speculation over the future of Guglielmo Vicario, but other reports have said that it is not the Italian that the Lilywhites want to replace.

According to Dean Jones, Spurs want to bring in a goalkeeper to be an understudy to Vicario and take Antonin Kinsky’s place in their squad.

Man City may not be willing to sell James Trafford to Tottenham

Man City goalkeeper James Trafford has been mooted as a target for Spurs in the past, and the Englishman has found game time hard to come by after the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma at the Etihad Stadium.

However, journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that despite Trafford’s willingness to leave, Man City would be reluctant to offload their number two.

When asked about the former Burnley goalkeeper’s future, O’Rourke told Football Insider: “Yeah, I think obviously Trafford’s not happy at the minute because he’s playing second fiddle to Gianluigi Donnarumma.

“I think it’s probably coming down to Trafford’s ambition to be in that England squad for the World Cup, but if he’s not playing, it’s going to be hard to be in Thomas Tuchel’s plans. That’s probably why speculation over his future has intensified in recent weeks.

“We know Newcastle are long-term admirers, Aston Villa have been mentioned as well, with the ongoing uncertainty around Emiliano Martinez’s future, Spurs have also been linked as well.

“But I just don’t see City letting him go in January, despite the player being unhappy and wanting to play. City won’t want to weaken their squad in January and leave themselves short in that goalkeeping department.”

Spurs may soon need to sign a number one

Tottenham Hotspur may have to start looking for a new number one at the end of the season if reports from Italy are to be believed.

Some sources have claimed that Vicario’s representatives are in talks with Inter Milan over a move to the San Siro, with the 29-year-old said to be keen on returning to Italy at the end of the season.

It has been alleged that Spurs are eyeing Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez as a potential replacement for Vicario.
