Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola lost another player during the Brentford game as Oscar Bobb had to be taken off

Manchester City lost their fourth player in a matter of days as Oscar Bobb limped out of their Carabao Cup quarter-final with Brentford. Bobb had come into the side as one of seven changes from the Crystal Palace game but was forced off inside 19 minutes.

The Norwegian's issue meant that Phil Foden came onto the pitch, joining the four outfield players who had stayed in the team from the Palace game. Nico Gonzalez, Nico O'Reilly, Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders were all asked to go again for the cup game.

Pep Guardiola had said that changes were necessary to prioritise the West Ham game in the Premier League this weekend, although conceded that there weren't enough options in the squad with the absences they have. Jeremy Doku picked up an issue last week to join John Stones, Mateo Kovacic and Rodri on the treatment table while Omar Marmoush and Rayan Ait-Nouri departed for the African Cup of Nations at the weekend.

The seven changes that were made included a start for academy talent Divine Mukasa, who has impressed Guardiola and first team coaches this season. The 18-year-old arrived from West Ham two years ago and quickly made his mark at the club.

"Obviously when people arrive from different clubs at his age there's usually an adaptation period but his has probably been as quick as I've seen," Under-21s coach Ben Wilkinson told the Manchester Evening News. "He's made a real step in the last six months in terms of his maturity and his level. One of the things I challenge him on is being able to make the difference in the top games because he has the talent.

"With Divine in this case [the captaincy] puts a bit of extra responsibility on him, which I hope tries to get a little more out of him. He's been closest to the first team this season and has learnt a lot from that so it's a case of trying to transition those behaviours into our games and being a positive role model for the rest of the group."
