Rayan Ait-Nouri of Manchester City receives medical treatment on the pitch during the Premier League match between City and Tottenham

Manchester City have been dealt an injury blow after new signing Rayan Ait-Nouri was forced off in the early stages of the Premier League clash with Tottenham.

The left-back appeared to twist an ankle when he blocked a pass after 15 minutes of the game and underwent treatment on the pitch as City's medical staff assessed the issue.

Although Ait-Nouri carried on initially, City sent Nathan Ake out to warm-up and a member of staff went down to put him through his paces.

Ait-Nouri was forced into a recovery run when Tottenham tried to send Mohammed Kudus in behind down his flank and he went to his haunches soon after, with Ake called back.

City told Ait-Nouri to go down to allow them to make the change, with Ake coming on to play at left-back. The loss of Ait-Nouri is a blow so early in his City career after a £31million move from Wolves.

The Algerian impressed at the Club World Cup and had a quiet outing against former club Wolves last week. He was City's first significant left-back signing in eight years.

Josko Gvardiol and Nico O'Reilly shared duties last season but Gvardiol is still injured and O'Reilly has been used as a midfielder so far this season.
