Manchester City injury latest as Pep Guardiola provides an update on his squad ahead of their Champions League trip to Monaco and Premier League visit to Brentford
Manchester City are on the road in Europe on Wednesday night as their Champions League campaign continues at Monaco.
The Blues defeated Napoli in their opening fixture and will be keen to make it two wins from two in the south of France. That would set them up nicely as they seek to progress as one of the top eight sides having struggled last season and ended up in the play-off round, where they were beaten by Real Madrid.
Pep Guardiola provided an injury update ahead of the game with Monaco and ruled four players out of the fixture while urging caution over Rodri, who has returned to training and has travelled to France. Here's the injury latest from the Etihad.
Rodri
Injury: Knee
The Spaniard trained on Tuesday ahead of the tie having missed the Premier League clash with Burnley due to a knee issue. But Guardiola preached caution with the midfielder and while he may be involved against Monaco, the City chief warned the 29-year-old is not currently fit to play enough to play three games in a week having felt pain in his knee after doing just that earlier this month.
Potential return date: Monaco (A), October 1
Abdukodir Khusanov
Injury: Unknown
The Uzebekistan international has made the right back spot his own in the past few weeks with three successive starts in that position. But he was forced off injured at half time in the draw with Arsenal and is unlikely to return before the international break.
Potential return date: Everton (H), October 18
Omar Marmoush
Injury: Knee
Marmoush suffered an injury in the fourth minute of Egypt's goalless draw with Burkina Faso earlier this month. He tried to carry on but was withdrawn five minutes later.
He returned to Cairo on crutches and underwent a scan in Egypt to assess the extent of the damage. City have since confirmed the 26-year-old will be out for a few weeks and while they were hopeful he could return prior to the international break, it is understood he is targeting the Everton game when the Premier League returns from a two-week hiatus.
Potential return date: Everton (H), October 18
Rayan Cherki
Injury: Thigh
The France international returned to training with City on Tuesday but is not yet ready to return and has not travelled to France.
He will not be risked for the weekend trip to Brentford either, the view within City remains that the clash with the Toffees two weeks later is his more likely return date.
Potential return date: Everton (H), October 18
Rayan Ait-Nouri
Injury: Ankle
Ait-Nouri suffered an ankle injury in the early stages of his home debut against Tottenham,
The £31million summer signing from Wolves played against Brighton but did not join up with the Algeria squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Guinea earlier this month.
The Algerian is not expected to return to training until the end of the October international break at the earliest. That could potentially put him in the frame to face Everton as he aims for a return to action next month.
Potential return date: Everton (H), October 18
