Manchester City have included a buy-back option and a sell-on clause in the £7.5million deal that has taken academy centre-back Callum Doyle to Wrexham.

The Blues have pocketed a sizeable fee for the 21-year-old, having rejected a £6.5million bid from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim earlier in the window. Championship newcomers Wrexham tried to capitalise towards the end of the window by opening the bidding for Doyle at around £2million.

They have eventually agreed a £7.5million fee, while City have an option to buy back the left-sided defender, who has come through the ranks at the Etihad and has five caps for England Under-21s.

The deal includes a 25% sell-on clause, which could see City profit if Doyle impresses at the Racecourse Stadium and is sold by the Welsh club.

Doyle was keen to join the ambitious Championship side and end his stint at his boyhood club, having never managed to crack the first team under Pep Guardiola.

Wrexham have secured three successive promotions under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's ownership. Last week, they broke their transfer record by signing Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich for £10million. Although they have lost their first two games back in the second tier, they continue to invest to try and fund another promotion charge.

Doyle will bring plenty of Championship experience to the Racecourse Ground. He has spent the last four years out on loan and after a campaign with Sunderland in League One, the last three seasons have been in the Championship with Coventry, Leicester and Norwich, making 112 appearances at that level.

The sale of Doyle will bring City's incomings from the sale of academy graduates to around £70million this summer. James McAtee joined Nottingham Forest for £30million and Yan Couto made his loan move to Borussia Dortmund permanent for a fee of around £25million.

Winger Farid Alfa-Ruprecht returned to Germany to sign for Bayer Leverkusen for £5million and Jacob Wright made a permanent switch to Norwich for £2.3million.
