"It was surprise after surprise for the beautiful birthday girl."
Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany staged the ultimate surprise party for his wife Carla - booking out an entire city centre hotel for the special occasion.
Blues icon Vincent, who is now head coach at Bayern Munich, jetted back to Manchester to take over the five star Stock Exchange Hotel for the weekend's surprise 40th birthday bash for Carla.
The 40-bedroom hotel, co-owned by Reds legend Gary Neville, has become known for its celebrity block bookings in recent years, having previously been taken over by the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Madonna during their stays in the city.
The hotel is also a favourite of Oasis' Gallagher brothers - with Noel choosing it as the location to stay during the band's big gigs in Manchester over the summer, while Liam was also spotted there only last week.
Pictures from Carla's birthday bash showed the incredible party taking place inside the hotel's acclaimed Tender restaurant with stunning displays of white flowers, while "CK" pillows were added to all the furnishings.
Carla was in stunning form for her special day, wearing a full length golden gown for the birthday meal, while Vincent donned a white t-shirt with a white tux jacket.
A huge photo backdrop featured thousands of photos of Carla from over the years, while special newspapers in honour of the birthday girl were also created as invites for guests.
Even the hotel's bedrooms were given the full party treatment, with room cards to state: "Please do not disturb - we were up all night celebrating Carla's birthday".
It was something of a footballer's wife reunion for Mancunian Carla - who was joined by a host of her friends made from the football years when Kompany was captain of City.
That included the likes of Chantelle Heskey, wife of Emile Heskey, Jessica Ireland, wife of Stephen Ireland, and Jude Cisse, ex-wife of Djibril Cisse.
Although Real Housewives of Cheshire star Tanya Bardsley, married to former United footballer Phil Bardsley, joked on social media that the "WAGs" as they used to be known should now have a name change.
In a nod to the fact that many of the friends are now mums to up-and-coming football league stars, she said: "Move over wags it's all about the mags now - the mums of ballers".
The event was organised by Manchester's Road3 events who went to town with a glittering theme to celebrate Carla's big 40th birthday bash with her family and many friends in attendance.
Road3's boss Laura Wolfe took to social media to share some of the images from the weekend.
In the post she said: "We had the absolute pleasure of creating an incredible 40th birthday dinner and party for our beautiful clients [Carla and Vincent Kompany].
"It was surprise after surprise for the beautiful birthday girl."
Sharing images from the "intimate dinner" held at the hotel before a full scale party, the events company added: "Every little detail was planned with absolute precision and care."
Before adding it was "the best party ever".
