Man City star Ruben Dias has reportedly agreed a new contract.

Manchester City are reportedly close to reaching an agreement over a new contract for Ruben Dias.

City signed Dias in the summer of 2020 from Benfica, with the Portugal defender since then going on to make 222 appearances for the club - scoring four goals along the way. Dias has also played a key role in helping City win nine major trophies, including four Premier League titles and one Champions League.

The Athletic have reported that City have struck a deal which will see Dias put pen-to-paper on fresh terms at the Etihad Stadium. The 68-cap international's current deal expires in 2027 - meaning that he has now entered the final two years of his contract at City.

It has not been stated in the report when the new terms in Dias' contract will run up to, with the expectation that it will likely be extended by 12 months.

Dias is one of six centre-backs in the City squad and has been a mainstay in Pep Guardiola's defence more often than not since his arrival from Benfica five years ago. Dias will be looking to compete with John Stones, Manu Akanji, Nathan Ake, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis for a role as a starting centre-back next season, although there have been rumours that Reis could leave the club this summer.

Dias, 28, and the City squad have been handed extra time off this summer, after their involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup. City take on Palermo in a pre-season friendly on Saturday ahead of their Premier League opener against Wolves on August 16.
