Man City player ratings vs Real Madrid with one 9/10 and Bernardo Silva disaster

Manchester City player ratings from their Champions League game with Real Madrid as the 10 men were knocked out

Manchester City were dumped out of the Champions League after a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid that saw them fail to overturn their first-leg deficit. Already facing a monumental task, the Blues started brightly but were undone when Bernardo Silva was sent off for deliberate handball in the box that gifted Real a goal and an extra man for 70 minutes.

City fought gamely and Erling Haaland converted Jeremy Doku's cross before half-time to get them on the scoresheet. Doku and Rayan Ait-Nouri both had goals disallowed for offside in the second half as the home side gave everything they could.

It was not to be though, and the damage from the first 110 minutes of the tie was too much for City to come back from, with Vinicius adding a second late in injury time. Here are the player ratings from the Manchester Evening News.

Donnarumma: Some decent saves and could do nothing for the penalty. Wiped Vinicius out in the second half but that was waved away. 7

Nunes: A solid effort, pushing hard down the right and contributing to City attacks before an early change. 7

Khusanov: Outstanding all evening, and deserved a better outcome. Time and again he had the better of Vinicius. 9

Dias: Didn't look fully fit and was made to look silly by Brahim in the box before losing his temper over some questionable decisions. 5

Ait-Nouri: Involved without being that effective, but he linked up nicely with Doku and gave him defensive cover. 7

Rodri: Tested Courtois early on but his shooting got worse as the game went on, even if he did leave it all out there. 7

Silva: A daft thing for any player to do, let alone the captain. City might have scored four but were never going to with 10 men. 3

Cherki: Not everything came off but he was a net positive in an attack that troubled the Real defence regularly. 7

Reijnders: An inclusion that summed up Guardiola's plan but he couldn't make anything work and was hooked at half-time. 5

Doku: Brilliant and dangerous from start to finish, never giving up and driving City's charge to stay alive in the tie. 8

Haaland: Far more involved than the first leg, scored, and probably looked most threatening in the minutes before he was taken off. 7
