Manchester City had to settle for a point at Sunderland in a game where they lost two players to injury. Nico Gonzalez and Savinho both hobbled off to further limit Pep Guardiola's options ahead of two games in six days.
Gonzalez initially played through his injury in the first half but was replaced at half-time by Rodri as the Spaniard made a battling return to the team. Jeremy Doku also came back from injury to take the place of Savinho in the second half when the Brazilian pulled up.
Sunderland worried City in the first half but Gianluigi Donnarumma had a lot less to do after the break as City took control. They could not find a goal though as their eight-match winning run in all competitions was ended. Here are the player ratings.
Donnarumma: Made some good saves in the game and his reading of play was good throughout, keeping City calm. 7
Nunes: Another solid performance that saw him come through a defensive challenge and keep bringing the ball forward. 7
Dias: Wasn't happy when Brobbey held his shirt but recovered to lead and extinguish the Sunderland threat. 7
Ake: Made a number of important tackles and interceptions to keep Sunderland at bay but there was some errant passing and he was booked. 6
O'Reilly: Left too much space behind him and played his way into trouble on more than one occasion to annoy Guardiola. 5
Gonzalez: Went down midway through the first half and hobbled through to the end of it before injury won out. 6
Silva: Denied a rare goal by an offside flag and then battled his way through the 90 minutes. 6
Cherki: City looked for him in the first half and he tried to make things happen but his impact waned - no rabonas this time. 6
Foden: Doesn't look at his best at the minute and there were some poor decisions made, even if he is involved enough that he will always help the team. 6
Savinho: A few sparks early on that faded over the course of the first half, reignited early in the second and then the fuse blew. 6
Haaland: Nothing went for him in front of goal, and he missed a good opening to set Cherki free as well with a wild touch. 5
