Manchester City slumped to a 2-0 home defeat to Tottenham in their first Premier League game of the season at the Etihad

Manchester City were given a bump back to reality as Tottenham punctured the early-season bubble they had created at Wolves. Last week's 4-0 win was quickly forgotten as Pep Guardiola's side stumbled to a 2-0 defeat against Spurs, who continued their inconceivably good run against them.
There were promising signs from the Blues in the opening stages but after Rayan Ait-Nouri came off injured they were undone down that side as Richarlison beat the offside trap to cross for Brennan Johnson.
City appeared stunned, and made things worse for themselves when James Trafford - with Ederson watching on from the bench - played a hospital pas sin his own box that was intercepted and put into the net by Joao Palhinha.
Four subs came on in the second half to try and reverse the scoreline but City were unable to breach Vicario in the Spurs goal, producing a limp start in front of their own supporters.
Here are the player ratings from the Manchester Evening News.
Trafford: A lucky escape outside of the box and then produced a criminally bad pass inside it to concede a second as the confidence drained out of him. 4
Lewis: Couldn't get back in time to stop the first goal and struggled to link up with Bobb as he had done last week. 5
Stones: The best of a mediocre bunch in defence, looking the least flustered on the ball and able to push up to help the team. 6
Dias: Did not get the better of his grapples with Richarlison and was unusually wasteful on the ball. 5
Ait-Nouri: City looked relatively stable while he was on the pitch before he went off injured. 6
Gonzalez: Did most things right but looked to be playing under pressure and the pass was never on for the second goal. 5
Reijnders: Some more encouraging signs, albeit he was guilty of some poor decisions in the final third. 5
Cherki: Everything looked so natural in last week's cameo but he struggled to create on his first start. 5
Bobb: Looked City's biggest threat in attack and could consider himself unlucky that more of what he tried didn't come off. 6
Marmoush: A lively start then became manic as he rushed into too many situations. No surprise he was taken off early. 5
Haaland: Some poor misses with his head that would have got City back into the game. 5
