Manchester City outclassed Villarreal to pick up three important points in the Champions League. Pep Guardiola's side move onto seven points from three games after a 2-0 win that saw the manager make four changes from the weekend win over Everton.

One of those was instrumental in the first goal, with Rico Lewis running onto a Savinho ball and squaring for the prolific Erling Haaland to score for a 12th consecutive game. Another then ended Haaland's streak of scoring every City goal as Bernardo Silva headed in from a Savinho cross.

That gave City a healthy cushion to take into the second half and while they had a few scares that included a rattling of the post late on another clean sheet for Gianluigi Donnarumma keeps the momentum going for the Blues. Here are the player ratings from the Manchester Evening News.

Donnarumma: Made an important save in the second half to keep City in control, and was alert all evening. 8

Nunes: Brilliant at the back and even better working forward with Lewis and Savinho in the first half. 8

Dias: A harsh booking in the second half but otherwise kept on top of Villarreal threats with minimum fuss. 7

Stones: A class act strolling into midfield to help City whenever they were in possession, while knowing when he had to get back. 7

Gvardiol: A few sloppy passes drew Guardiola's ire on the touchline and he is still settling into the season. 6

Gonzalez: Looked good with terrific awareness of everything around him, although a concern that he had to hobble off. 7

Silva: Scored a goal and isn't called Haaland! Better than usual in attack and some key tackles from further back. 8

Lewis: Ran the game in the first half with Savinho, even if his influence faded as the second period wore on. 7

Savinho: One of his best games for City, with a big hand in two goals and nearly getting on the scoresheet as well. 8
