Tijjani Reijnders enjoyed a dream debut for Manchester City at Wolves

Manchester City made a winning start to the 2025/26 Premier League as they won 4-0 away at Wolves on the opening day. Transfer drama surrounding Ederson and Savinho was quickly parked as a team containing three summer signings impressed at Molineux.

James Trafford, in for the apparently ill Ederson, was solid throughout and made a number of saves in the first half to keep Wolves out. That enabled the Blues to take the lead when Tijjani Reijnders played in Rico Lewis in the box and he squared for Erling Haaland.

Minutes later, Reijnders was finishing a brilliant counter started by Oscar Bobb and the second half saw further goals from Haaland and substitute Rayan Cherki. Here are the player ratings from the Manchester Evening News.

Trafford: Drama around his position but a faultless start to his senior City career with a number of good saves and excellent positioning throughout. 8

Lewis: A performance that should make City close the door on any Forest interest: shifting inside, racing back defensively, and setting up Haaland for the opener. 8

Stones: Looks fit and sharp. Put in a tremendous block in the first half to deny Strand Larsen and was comfortable carrying the ball up the pitch. 7

Dias: Nearly undone by an early error but recovered well and worked well with Ait-Nouri on the left. 7

Ait-Nouri: A quiet return to Molineux but that was no bad thing, as he smartly got himself out of a number of tricky positions. 7

Gonzalez: Possibly his best City game since the Newcastle one, he imposed himself from the start and balanced the defensive grit with driving forward. 8

Silva: Lots of clever play at both ends of the pitch to knit the team together and keep City in control. 7

Reijnders: Turned a sluggish start into a masterclass with brilliant contributions to all three goals. What a signing he looks. 9

Bobb: The best signing that isn't a signing? Back to where he was at last summer with an electric pressing presence. 8

Doku: Had some joy early on but never really did enough to trouble the Wolves defence when he did get on the ball. 6

Haaland: Led really well, made a number of runs looking to break the lines, and scored twice. He looks hungry for goals. 8
