Girona are one of more than half a dozen European clubs keen to sign Manchester City youngster Sverre Nypan on loan this summer. Nypan completed his £12.5million move to the Etihad last week.
City signed the 18-year-old midfielder from Rosenborg, and he will link up with the first-team squad for pre-season training on Monday as Pep Guardiola runs the rule over the highly-rated Norwegian.
Nypan will spend this season out on loan, adding to the 70 senior games he has played for Rosenborg. His father Arne confirmed the plan is to find a league above Norway's top flight to help with his progress to City.
"It's part of the plan, and it's always been that way," Nypan Snr told Nettavisen. "We're going to find a middle ground between the Eliteserien and the Premier League, and that's been a key element in how we intend to do it.
"We will make arrangements for him to have the best conditions to take new steps."
Girona were interested in signing Nypan earlier this year, while Aston Villa and Arsenal showed an interest among Premier League clubs.
A loan switch to the La Liga club is now an option, but Arne Nypan said nothing had yet been decided and that there was plenty of interest in the midfielder.
"Girona is a huge club and could be a very, very good solution since they are part of the City structure," he said. "At the same time, there are seven or eight clubs that have signed up and are very eager.
"We still haven't decided, there are some small things left, but it's just around the corner."
