Manchester City have held talks with Tottenham after being approached over a deal for Savinho. The Brazilian winger only joined the Blues last season but could be on the move again with Spurs interested.

City do not want to let Savinho go, having signed him from fellow City Football Group club Troyes last season for an initial £21m in a deal that could rise to £33m. He was thrown straight into the first team and regularly praised by Pep Guardiola for adapting to the side, although he was told there was room for improving with his end product.

There were signs of progress at the Club World Cup and Savinho came up with an assist for Tijjani Reijnders in the 3-0 win over Palermo on Saturday in City's final pre-season friendly. However, Tottenham could ensure that it was the 21-year-old's last game for the club if they can strike a deal.

Despite City's reluctance to sell, Guardiola does not want to keep unhappy players and more generally has spoken about the squad needing to be cut down. If Savinho wants to push a move, the club will not stand in his way.

They will, however, require a sizeable fee for a player who still has enormous potential and was one of the stars of La Liga two years ago. It will take more than £50m for City to even consider a deal with Spurs or any other interested clubs.

Guardiola reiterated at the weekend that the Blues are unlikely to make new signings in the final weeks of the window with the focus instead on outgoings.

"A lot of players should leave. New players, I don’t think so," he said.

"We need a little bit less. I don’t like (lots) of players. One reason we sent Vitor Reis to Girona is for that.

"I love Vitor a lot and he has an incredible future but I don’t want him staying at home every weekend. The transfer window is moving a lot and many things are going to happen.

"We’ll see what happens and how we will handle it. We’ll handle it as best as possible."
