Phil Foden said Manchester City will use the tragic death of boxing legend and Blues fan Ricky Hatton as motivation ahead of the Manchester derby.
Hatton’s death was confirmed on Sunday, just hours before his beloved City welcomed Manchester United to the Etihad.
And Foden, also a boyhood Blue, paid tribute to the 46-year-old ahead of kick off.
"My heart obviously goes out to his family at this hard time,” said Foden, who is back in the team for the derby, speaking to Sky Sports.
“To hear the news just before a big game is devastating, I'm sure he would have been here today supporting us.
"Today is for him and we're going to try and get the win and do the best for him."
Asked whether it can be extra motivation for City, Foden added: “Definitely, we've got to use it as motivation and try and get the win for him."
During his boxing career, Hatton held multiple world titles, as well as UK titles, and was named Fighter of the Year in 2015.
He was a huge City fan and walked out to his fights to the tune of Blue Moon, while he also donned sky blue shorts.
