Wrexham recently confirmed the signing of Manchester City defender Callum Doyle, with the Championship club's chief executive disclosing how they managed to seal the deal

Manchester City were persuaded to allow an academy graduate to join Wrexham after the Welsh club deployed an "old-fashioned" strategy, it's been revealed.
Defender Callum Doyle completed his move to the Red Dragons last week on a four-year deal, which could earn City up to £8million. The Championship newcomers, backed by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, successfully beat off interest from several competitors to secure the highly-rated 21-year-old's signature.
Doyle made his bow for Wrexham on Tuesday evening, contributing to their 3-2 victory at Preston North End in the Carabao Cup second round. The England Under-21 international produced a solid display, with a decisive goal from former Bournemouth striker Kieffer Moore clinching the win.
Wrexham CEO Michael Williamson has now disclosed the tactics he used to complete the transfer. The ex-Inter Milan executive revealed that rather than trading emails or WhatsApp messages with City representatives, he chose to travel to the Etihad Campus personally to conclude the agreement.
Williamson stressed the significance of employing conventional approaches in allowing Wrexham to achieve a major coup.
Speaking to the club's official YouTube channel regarding the Doyle acquisition, he said: "In that case, I actually went up to Man City's campus there, and sat down around the table.

"It was a little bit of an old-fashioned way, instead of exchanging emails back and forth, or WhatsApp messages, we sat around the table and worked out the deal the old-fashioned way over a cup of coffee.
"Those things are important for us to get across the line. In that case, he had other clubs that were looking at him, but that's just a testament of what we have here and have built as a foundation here with this club - we're a place that top players want to come to."
Doyle was reported to have attracted interest from Scottish side Rangers and Sheffield United before his move to Wrexham. City also rejected a £6.5m bid from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim for him earlier in the window.

The defender progressed through City's academy but failed to make a single first-team appearance for the club. However, Doyle did taste success out on loan, helping Sunderland climb from League One in 2022 and reaching the Championship play-off final with Coventry the next year.
He then moved on loan to Leicester, where he again aided his team in securing automatic promotion, this time to the Premier League, before spending last season with Norwich. Despite his young age, Doyle has already clocked up nearly 100 Championship matches.
It has been reported that location played a significant part in the Manchester-born player's decision to join Wrexham. Doyle was the 10th new addition brought in by the club during the summer transfer window.
It's understood the deal includes a buy-back option and a 25 per cent sell-on clause, which could benefit City in the future if he impresses at the Racecourse Ground.
