Manchester City midfielder Sverre Nypan is heading to the Championship as the Blues look to prepare him for the Premier League

Manchester City signing Sverre Nypan will spend the 2025/26 season at Middlesbrough after the Championship club won a lengthy battle to strike up a loan deal.
City had already beaten off strong competition to sign Nypan permanently, agreeing a £12.5m deal this summer after Aston Villa, Girona, and Arsenal had all looked to buy him. The Blues have since had plenty of interest from clubs looking to take him on loan for the year, including Girona and Lyon.
That contest has been won by Middlesbrough as the Championship club look to move forward under new coach Rob Edwards after parting company with Michael Carrick in the summer. A move to the second tier of English football is seen as good preparation as he looks to develop into a top Premier League player.
City have had a good relationship with Middlesbrough in recent years, with Micah Hamilton, Morgan Rogers and Zack Steffen all heading there from the Etihad.
Nypan follows fellow City young talent Vitor Reis in moving on loan after the centre-back completed a move to Girona last week. A number of clubs are hoping to sign Claudio Echeverri on loan before the transfer window closes after the Argentine midfielder looked bright in pre-season.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving members £192 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.
Echeverri was not included in the City squad that headed to Palermo for the pre-season friendly, described as not fully fit. Pep Guardiola will have to decide whether to include him for the Premier League trip to Wolves on Saturday with strong competition for places in the squad.
James McAtee and James Grealish have left this week to reduce the size of the squad, with the former about to complete a £30m move to Nottingham Forest and the latter having sealed a loan move to Everton.
