Manchester City welcome Real Madrid to the Etihad Stadium tonight hoping to upset the odds to progress in the Champions League.

City are 3-0 down from the first leg after a Federico Valverde hat-trick stunned Pep Guardiola's side. It has been a hard week since then after a disappointing draw at West Ham left them nine points behind Arsenal in the Premier League.

However, progressing to the quarter-finals could be a turning point in City's campaign. Guardiola said in his pre-match press conference he knew 10 of the 11 players who would start the match tonight.

As for Real, they have welcomed Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham back into their squad for this game. Whoever wins tonight will likely meet Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals. They are currently 6-1 up on Atalanta after the first leg.

Real Madrid predicted line-up

City are aiming to shock the world tonight when they host Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16. Federico Valverde's first half hat-trick stunned the Blues at the Bernabeu and left City on the verge of exiting the competition. However, the tie is far from over and Real head coach Alvaro Arbeloa will not be rotating his side, regardless of his team's three-goal advantage. Thibaut Courtois was the hero at the Bernabeu when he stopped Nico O'Reilly's point-blank effort. Had City scored then, there would have been a different complexion to this second leg.

Courtois will start with Antonio Rudiger and Dean Huijsen at centre-back. The defensive duo have formed a solid partnership for Madrid and it would be surprising to see Arbeloa mess with that. At full-back, City can expect the visitors make a couple of changes.

City predicted line-up

City have a mountain to climb in the Champions League tonight as they seek to overcome a 3-0 first-leg last-16 deficit against Real Madrid. Federico Valverde's hat-trick in the Bernabeu means City's European hopes hang by a thread heading into the second leg at the Etihad but Blues boss Pep Guardiola and his squad believe they can mount a sensational comeback.

To do so they will have to defend better than they did in the first leg and City could revert to what has been their first choice back four to try and shut Real out. Abdukodir Khusanov started at right back against Madrid last week in part to combat Vini Jr's pace on that flank, but Mathues Nunes could come back in given he offers a bit more going forward and City need goals.

Real Madrid injury news

City welcome Real Madrid to the Etihad Stadium tonight as they aim to overturn a 3-0 first leg defeat in the Champions League round of 16. The Blues were not at their best in Madrid as they succumbed to a first half hat-trick from Federico Valverde. Pep Guardiola's side improved in the second half and could have pulled one back but for a smart save from Thibaut Courtois. In his pre-match press conference, Guardiola did not provide any injury hints. He suggested he had already picked his team for tomorrow night but for one unnamed position.

City were given the day off from training as they recover for the massive game.

City injury news

Guardiola kept his Manchester City team firmly under wraps when he spoke to the media ahead of the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Real Madrid. The City boss confirmed he had already picked 10 of the 11 players who will start Tuesday night but did not mention any names. Erling Haaland appeared to tweak his groin in the draw at West Ham on Saturday but he was able to finish the match so he should be fit. As for the visitors, they could welcome Kylian Mbappe to their starting line-up this evening.

The Frenchman returned to training in Madrid on Monday and has travelled to England. Jude Bellingham has also been included in the squad to take on the Blues.

Hello!

Good afternoon and welcome along to the City matchday blog. Tonight could be an occasion that is remembered in City history forever. Manage to overturn a three-goal deficit from the first leg and it would be one of the biggest upsets in Champions League history. In a one-off game, anything can happen. City know they can score goals and Guardiola was confident his team can create the chances to turn this around. However, it is whether the Blues can keep their opponents out at the other end.

It was the Valverde show last week at the Bernabeu and Arbeloa is able to call upon some more game changers tonight. Both Mbappe and Bellingham have travelled after missing the first leg. As for City, they should have the same players available to them as they did Saturday.

Stay tuned for updates...
