Man Utd could be without 3 players vs Liverpool as Ruben Amorim offers update on key duo

Manchester United could be without three players for its trip to Liverpool this weekend, with Ruben Amorim looking to end a long wait for a win at Anfield for the Red Devils.

Wayne Rooney scored the only goal of the game in January 2016 just a few months into the Jurgen Klopp reign — the last time Manchester United emerged victorious in this fixture. And Liverpool is hoping to bounce back after three consecutive defeats against Crystal Palace, Galatasaray and Chelsea.

The Old Trafford side will be without two key men for the trip to Liverpool, though Manchester United has a largely fit roster to choose from.

"Licha (Lisandro Martinez) is near, but almost returning to the training with the team," Amorim said in his Friday press briefing.

"[Noussair] Mazraoui, I don’t know. The rest of the guys, the national team [players], they are ready. But, if you saw the games, some players play in Japan, so we need to be careful, to give more time.

"Diogo [Dalot] didn’t play the last game [for Portugal]; he was here [earlier]. Bruno [Fernandes] played 62 minutes and we gave [him] one more day.

"We try to balance everything to have everyone ready. But they are ready, the guys are returning from national teams. They are ready to play."

Ayden Heaven, the young talent, is also likely to be sidelined with a minor issue. However, it is unlikely that he would have featured anyway.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will be missing Alisson Becker (hamstring) and Giovanni Leoni (ACL). But Ibrahima Konate and Ryan Gravenberch are both set to be available despite scares during the international break.

"Ibou has come back to us, started the sessions again, and is expected to train with us today," Arne Slot said on Friday. Konate did then take part in training later in the day.

On Gravenberch, he said the midfielder is "completely fit", adding that a good relationship with the Netherlands means that the Liverpool ace was never going to be risked.

"Like I always say, it's so difficult to say because the end phase of rehab can always give you positives or negatives," Slot said on Alisson. "But he will not play on the weekend and also not next week."

Liverpool.com says: This fixture is rarely easy for the Reds but getting back on track is a must. A win for Liverpool ahead of another big run of games would be a major boost heading into a vital period of the season.
