Man Utd legend tips Liverpool to win treble if it signs Alexander Isak - 'He can do that'

23 hours ago 28

Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has predicted that Liverpool could win the treble this season if Arne Slot's side can get a transfer deal for Alexander Isak over the line.

So far, Newcastle has not relented on its firm stance that Isak is not for sale. However, there is still time for Eddie Howe's men to bring in a couple of forwards, which could alter the club's position.

Earlier in the summer, Liverpool saw an opening offer rejected for Isak. But it would take a British record fee even if Newcastle opens the door to a potential exit for the Swede, who is currently training alone.

"Success for Isak is winning the treble for Liverpool, and I think he can do that," Sheringham told Snabbare.

"I think he will get enough chances. He might have to change his game slightly because people play differently at Newcastle than they do when they go to Liverpool.

"He will have to play with his back to goal a little bit more rather than running in behind, but I think he can do everything as a player.

"The chances will come. He's proven it at this level. He's played in the Premier League.

"He can score goals against all the center-halves that are out there. He will have no problem fitting into the Liverpool system for me."

Last season, only Mohamed Salah scored more goals in the Premier League than Isak. The 25-year-old helped Newcastle secure a Champions League spot and win its first major trophy in 70 years.

In addition to chasing Isak, Liverpool is also looking at signing at least one center-back, with interest in Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi and Parma wonderkid Giovanni Leoni.

"We've had discussions, and it's clear at the moment that we can't involve [Isak] with the group," Howe said after Newcastle's 2-2 draw in a friendly against Espanyol last weekend. "I don't know how long that will be for, but that's the latest.

"I'd want Alex to be playing today. I'd want him training tomorrow. We would love the player to be with us.

"Let me make that absolutely clear. There's no part of me that doesn't want that outcome, but I don't see the current situation changing for [the Aston Villa game this weekend]."

Liverpool.com says: Isak would be a transformational addition for the Reds, even after Hugo Ekitike arrived. He is an elite number nine and would score even more with Salah and Florian Wirtz teeing him up.
