Man Utd may have solved Ruben Amorim's biggest issue right before playing Liverpool

2 hours ago 25

Altay Bayindir maintained a positive outlook following Manchester United's convincing 2-0 victory over Sunderland at home - despite being dropped by Ruben Amorim.

The 27 year old Bayindir had featured in all six of United's Premier League matches, three of which occurred after Senne Lammens arrived from Royal Antwerp for an initial £18.2 million plus add-ons.

Amorim persisted with his goalkeeper until another unconvincing display during the Red Devils' disappointing 3-1 defeat at Brentford. When Sunderland travelled to Old Trafford on Saturday, Lammens was handed his first start. The 23 year old justified his manager's confidence with a display that appeared more composed than any of Bayindir's showings this campaign.

Following the match, Lammens received widespread acclaim from supporters and his boss, making it perfectly reasonable if Bayindir felt disheartened. However, that appears to be far from reality.

Via Instagram, the Turkey international celebrated United's triumph by posting the final scoreline accompanied by a red heart emoji and flexed bicep emoji.

Bayindir was also seen warmly greeting Lammens on the pitch after the final whistle.

Amorim maintained before kick-off that his goalkeeper switch was simply about squad rotation.

"Everybody has to be ready to play," the Red Devils manager explained.

"We need to win this game, every opponent is different, so we try to find the best characteristics to win every match."

Reflecting on Lammens' debut, Amorim told BBC Sport: "Senne did really well. We were a competitive and adult team today. We need to win these games with a clean sheet. Good for us."

Mason Mount, who opened the scoring for United before Benjamin Sesko added their second, also praised his new teammate. "He was solid, when we were under pressure, the option was Ben [Sesko] and we worked off that," Mount explained.

"Buzzing for him, everyone was around him today, it can be tough making your first start we want to be together and I felt that today so we keep moving forward."

Lammens will now return to Belgium after earning a call-up to his country's senior squad for two World Cup qualifiers.

The former Antwerp defender will be hoping to feature against North Macedonia and Wales.

Upon his return, United travel to Anfield to face a Liverpool side enduring a three-match losing run. The Red Devils then welcome Brighton, as Amorim looks to steer his side up the league standings.
