Alejandro Garnacho has taken to social media amid growing speculation over his future at Manchester United.
football.london understands that the forward has initiated talks with Chelsea as he is keen to remain in the Premier League. The uncertainty surrounding Garnacho's future at Old Trafford has been mounting since the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in May.
The Argentine expressed his disappointment at not playing a more prominent role in the match during a post-match interview. Earlier that day, he had posted a photo of himself celebrating a goal in the 2024 FA Cup final against Manchester City under Erik ten Hag.
At the time, The Manchester Evening News reported that Reds manager Ruben Amorim had suggested Garnacho consider a move away from the club this summer. Following the summer break, Garnacho informed United of his desire to leave, along with four other teammates - Jadon Sancho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Marcus Rashford, the latter having joined Barcelona on loan.
The academy product was granted an extended summer holiday to facilitate his search for a new club, but he soon returned to Carrington to commence an individual training programme. Garnacho did not take part in the summer tour of the US and it now seems that steps are being taken to end his tenure at the club, with reports suggesting that personal terms have been agreed with Chelsea.
The 21-year-old seems to be making an effort to maintain his fitness, sharing an image of himself training in the gymnasium on his Instagram stories. Garnacho's social media post featured a simple caption stating, "Work."
Previous reports have suggested that Chelsea are hesitant to spend beyond £30million for Garnacho during the summer transfer window, a figure that falls short of Napoli's January approach. That offer was understood to be nearer the £40million valuation.
Amorim mentioned earlier this summer that United's unsettled players might still have a role at the club should their transfer valuations remain unmet.
When questioned about whether the club was worried about diminishing player values in order to facilitate departures, he responded: "That is not the case because there are different reasons for the players [wanting to leave]. Some players have to find a new place to have space in the team. Other players show they want a new challenge and a new team.
"We are just allowing these players to think and decide. If they reach a point where they will have to join the team, they will join because they are our players.
"I know for a fact Omar (Barrada, CEO) and Jason (Wilcox, director of football) and the club have a number (price) for these players. If they don't reach that, they will be Manchester United players, no doubt about that. I understand other clubs are maybe waiting for the last minute, but they can have a surprise.
"I'm ready to receive the players. They have more competition. If they want to play in the World Cup, they need to play. I'm happy with that because I'll have more options. If they have to fight each other to play, for me it's perfect."
