He's ready to throw some shapes

A Manchester City star has announced they will be ‘throwing some shapes’ by spinning the decks at a Chorlton bar.

Paul Lake, who played for the Blues in the 80s, will appear as special guest DJ at The Garden Bar next week, where he will be celebrating his love for music and sharing ‘some of my favourite dance tunes’ with a free-to-attend party.

Lake, 57, started his football career as part of the Denton Youth squad in the late 70s before joining Manchester City FC in 1983. Spending three years with the team, he had initially been appointed club captain for the 1990–91 season before having to pull out due to injury. He also represented England at under-21 and B team level.

The footballer made numerous attempts to return to the pitch with brief reserve team appearances in the early 90s, but Lake eventually chose to retire from football in 1996 due to his injuries. Since then, he’s worked as a physiotherapist for the likes of Macclesfield Town and Bolton Wanderers, and also works as a match day co-commentator for BBC Radio Manchester.

Lake will appear at the former Font venue, on Manchester Road, next Friday (April 24) as part of an event alongside resident DJ Martin Holland. It is the latest big name for the bar, who has previously hosted a DJ set from Emmerdale’s Jeff Hordley which included a poignant tribute to Mani.

In recent weeks, the family-run neighbourhood bar and restaurant has also hosted comedy clubs, quiz nights, themed-food evenings and live music showcases. Speaking about Friday’s show, manager Jess Anderson said: "We’re really excited to welcome Paul to our venue in Chorlton.

“He’s someone with a great story and a genuine love of music, which is exactly what these nights are about – bringing people together in a relaxed, friendly setting with great tunes… plus, there's bound to be lots of dancing!"

Teasing what fans can expect, Paul said: “It’s a pleasure to be sharing some of my favourite dance tunes with everyone. I’ve thrown a few shapes in my time and there’s life in the old dog yet! See you next Friday!"

The Garden bar is on 115-117 Manchester Road, Chorlton, Manchester M21 9PG. The event with Paul Lake will take place from 8.30pm on Friday, April 24.
