Chelsea came from behind to beat West Ham 3-2, with Marc Cucurella giving his verdict on the win

Marc Cucurella believes Chelsea proved their doubters wrong in the comeback win at home to West Ham.

Liam Rosenior's side were booed off at half-time as the Hammers raced into a 2-0 lead. Three changes were made at the break, however, which transformed the performance, with all three players involved in the goals that earned the win.

“We work for moments like this,” said Cucurella, who headed the equaliser in the 70th minute. “We showed the mentality of the team.

“We went 2-0 down at half-time and there were doubts and probably not too many people believed in us. Then we speak during the half-time, we go with a lot of energy and we come back.”

It was the second comeback victory in less than 72 hours for Chelsea after they came from behind to win in Naples on Wednesday. “Sometimes when you are losing you lose confidence but in both games we stayed in the game, we did things right and we have a lot of quality,” said Cucurella. “If we stick together and we fight together, these things can happen.”

Substitute Wesley Fofana helped start the recovery, crossing for Joao Pedro – also fresh from the bench – to head in. Cucurella levelled after the ball rebounded to him off the crossbar before Pedro set up Enzo Fernandez in stoppage-time as Chelsea recovered from two down at half-time to win for the first time in the Premier League.

The story of the match though was the dramatic transformation in performance level after Jorrel Hato, Alejandro Garnacho and Benoit Badiashile – none of them regular starters – had been hooked off. Jamie Gittens had also gone off injured, replaced by Pedro Neto.

“At the end we are a team and the most important thing is winning the game,” said Cucurella. “I think at the moment in a lot of games, not only today, the players who come on from the bench have made a difference.

“It was difficult. West Ham played a really good first half as well, so we have to give credit to them. All together we want the same end to the game, which is to get the three points and we are really happy.

“After being 2-0 down at half-time we showed our mentality to play a really good second half. We stick together in tough moments and we deserved this win.”
