Manchester City have completed the £20million capture of the England international

Modest Marc Guehi delivered an understated introduction to Manchester City after completing his £20million switch from Crystal Palace, but his impact on the pitch will be anything but.

Guehi was confirmed as a City player on Monday afternoon and has penned a five and a half year deal at the Etihad. He is ineligible to face Bodo/Glimt in Tuesday's Champions League tie as January additions can only be added to European squads after the transfer window closes, but the 25-year-old could make his Blues debut against Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday.

Guehi, who captained Crystal Palace to FA Cup success over City in May, has been a long-term target for Pep Guardiola and City moved decisively this month to secure his signature. And the England international delivered an understated and humble interview upon signing.

"I’m very proud and very excited to get started," he said on his City arrival. "First and foremost, it’s such an honour. It’s such a big club to come and play for. For me, I’ve always been obsessed with getting better and to improve.

"That’s something I’m constantly striving for and I think this is the perfect place for me to do that. The environment, I’ve heard so much about the club and the fans, the players and manager speak for themselves - it’s definitely the right environment for me to improve and get better. Hopefully, I can bring what I have to the table to help every single person here too."

Guehi is not someone to blow his own trumpet. He is a grounded, family-man and a son of a church minister. Faith plays a big part in his life. The City new boy was asked about his strengths upon signing for club and replied: “If I’m being honest, I think I’m someone who doesn’t have any attributes that stand out.

"But I’ll say I’m quite well-rounded in everything. I’m balanced I’d like to say. What I can definitely bring is a calmness and a good level head and just being a good teammate.”

He is eager and willing to learn and develop and that will chime with City's fans as well as Guardiola, the coaching staff and players.

"I’m someone who wants to come in, help and do his part and see how far the Club can continue to grow," he added. "I’m grateful that I’ve got good people around me - people that push me. Everyone talks about a product of the environment - I’m a product of having those people around me, that push me and help me every single day. I’m glad that those people are in my life because they help me to get better.”
