Marc Guehi reacts after missing out on Carabao Cup medal from Man City win

Manchester City were the ones celebrating another League Cup triumph, but not everybody in the Cityzens' squad was given a medal at Wembley Stadium

Marc Guehi uploaded a video of his Manchester City team-mates being handed a Carabao Cup winners' medal after he did not qualify for one. Guehi, 25, was not allowed to feature at Wembley Stadium in the 2-0 triumph over Arsenal.

The January transfer signing was not banned because he was cup-tied, having already played in the competition this season before signing from Crystal Palace just after Christmas. If this was the case, fellow January recruit Antoine Semenyo would have also been forbidden from competing beneath the Wembley arch.

Instead, the England international was not allowed to play in the final because he was not registered at the club before the first-leg of City's semi-final battle against Newcastle United. Semenyo was able to compete because he was signed and registered before the clash against the Magpies.

As a result, Guehi could not compete in the final against Mikel Arteta's side. Judging by his recent social media post, the central defender was disappointed he could not play his part in City's ninth League Cup triumph.

He posted a slow-motion video of City players hoisting the League Cup trophy in the air during their trophy celebration in the Wembley stands. Guehi also included the caption: "What a team and performance. So proud of the boys."

Before the final, Guardiola made his unhappiness regarding Guehi's ban from the semi-final and final matches in the competition perfectly clear. In his press conference, the Catalan said: "Hopefully we can convince the Carabao Cup (EFL) that Marc can play the final. I don't understand why he cannot play the final.

"Hopefully we make a letter. You buy a player for a lot of money and he is not able to play for a rule. I don't understand. Hopefully they can change it. It is difficult to understand."

Instead, Abdukodir Khusanov and Nathan Ake were the ones trusted to lead City's defence. The Uzbekistani and Dutchman did an impeccable job against the Premier League leaders.

City won through a stunning brace from Nico O'Reilly, who stole the show with his marauding runs into the box from left-back. After the match, an ecstatic Guardiola said: “For James [Trafford] it was the first final he played, [Abdukodir] Khusanov just a year here, Nico O’Reilly has impressed me in his first full season and Antoine [Semenyo] played his first final.

"There are many players who have had a first experience but that is good, that’s what we need. That tells us okay we can do it.

"Still we are much better than last season but not the team we should be. That requires time. Hopefully next season and the end of this season we can do it.”
