Marc Guehi's true colors shine through after missing out on Liverpool transfer

14 hours ago 49

Marc Guehi has demonstrated his professionalism with a message nearly a week after his proposed transfer to Liverpool fell through.

The Reds had attempted to secure the Crystal Palace star's services on transfer deadline day, but the deal fell apart in the final hours of the window. Liverpool had agreed a deal with Palace for Guehi, but the Eagles halted the transfer after failing to secure a replacement for the Premier League star.

Guehi remains a Palace player, and it's believed the Reds won't renew their interest in January, choosing instead to wait until next summer. Just a day after the Liverpool move fell through, Guehi joined the England squad for the team's latest World Cup qualifiers.

On Saturday, the center-back shone for the Three Lions in a 2-0 victory over Andorra at Villa Park.

Guehi played for 76 minutes before being substituted by manager Thomas Tuchel, with Ezri Konsa taking his place.

Less than 24 hours later, the defender took to social media to post two messages demonstrating his class.

Both posts were wordless entries on his Instagram story, the first displaying a graphic of the scoreline from England's win over Andorra. The second featured a photo of Guehi alongside Eberechi Eze, who was a Palace teammate until the forward completed a move to Arsenal last month.

Guehi could face Liverpool on September 27 when the Reds journey to Selhurst Park for their Premier League match.

The defender's future is likely to remain a hot topic as his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

Former Premier League star Tony Cascarino praised Guehi's behavior during the transfer saga.

"I’m just delighted a player has honored his contract," said Cascarino on talkSPORT on Sunday. "He didn’t rock any boats. He did what he should have done.

"He made himself available, he was captain at Villa Park (for Palace vs. Villa), and he played his part in their 3-0 victory while also scoring a goal, that’s how it should be, he’s being a professional.

"Player power has got stronger. Obviously, if your contract is running down and you’re down to one year or you’re in a position where your contract has run out, you have nearly all the power.

"Marc Guehi could easily sign for a club in January, only four months away."
