Marc Guehi was back in training with England in less than 48 hours after his proposed move to Liverpool fell through.
The Crystal Palace captain was seen laughing and smiling, showing his love for the game and professionalism, as he geared up for England's World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia. Guehi had even undergone a medical at Liverpool following an agreement on a deal that would have seen him join the reigning Premier League champion.
However, the deal collapsed when Palace couldn't secure sufficient defensive reinforcements, leaving the London team at risk of losing Guehi for free next summer when his contract runs out.
England manager Thomas Tuchel gave the entire squad Monday off for deadline day, acknowledging that many players would be preoccupied with potential transfers.
"It is one reason why we called the players up on Tuesday, to not have all these mixed emotions," Tuchel said.
"They come on Tuesday, so they have one day off.
"We also didn't want to have that week too long. We wanted to streamline it towards the Saturday game and start on the Tuesday afternoon with training.
"But one part of the decision was also to give them the freedom to sort out maybe their transfer issues and the transfer subjects that come their way.
"So, yeah, of course we're interested.
"We need to know where we have to drive on the weekend."
The players reported for duty on Tuesday and now have the rest of the week to prepare for the World Cup qualifying double header.
Guehi is a crucial part of Tuchel's World Cup strategy and is slated to feature in the upcoming week.
England takes on Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday, followed by a trip to Belgrade next Tuesday.
All 25 England players were present for training at St George's Park, with U20s duo Law McCabe and Zach Abbott being elevated to train with the senior squad.
