Marc Guehi has reportedly made a decision on who he’d rather join out of Liverpool and Manchester City as speculation continues over his future.

The Crystal Palace defender is the subject of plenty of interest from Europe’s top clubs as he enters the final few months of his contract at Selhurst Park. Oliver Glasner has left the door open for him to move on during the January window though, which has seen rumors ramp up recently.

City in particular has been featuring heavily, with Pep Guardiola potentially in the market for a new defender after injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias.

Reports have suggested that City could make a move this month for Guehi, which would come as a blow to Liverpool. The Reds of course came close to signing the England international during the summer, only for Palace to pull the plug on the move at the eleventh hour on deadline day.

But while City has been made the new favorite for Guehi’s signature in some quarters, it seems Liverpool still retains the upper hand with the player. According to The Athletic’s City correspondent Sam Lee, Guehi actually prefers a move to Anfield over the Etihad.

“On Monday night I was told by somebody who knows what’s going on at City, but also I think probably Palace as well, he said he thinks Guehi wants to stay until the summer and he prefers Liverpool in any case,” Lee told the Let Me Talk podcast.

There is, however, a caveat for the Reds, with Arsenal seemingly also in the running now, and Lee suggests that the Gunners could turn out to be Liverpool’s main rival for Guehi’s signature in the summer.

“Somebody else messaged me on Twitter and I know he’s very good on other club stuff, he was like ‘yeah, he wants to stay until the summer and he prefers Liverpool and Arsenal’. I was like ‘well I haven’t heard Arsenal,’ but that kind of tallies what I’d been told the night before,” Lee added.

Guehi’s future may have taken another twist after Palace was humiliated by non-league Macclesfield in the FA Cup, with the holders falling at the first hurdle on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was seen involved in heated exchanges with the club’s supporters after the game, with Palace’s form having taken an almighty tumble recently.

That leaves the Eagles fighting on just two fronts for the remainder of the season now - the Premier League and the UEFA Conference League, with the latter their only remaining hope of some silverware, and potentially their best chance of reaching Europe again next season.

Whether that will have any bearing on Guehi’s future remains to be seen, with speculation no doubt set to ramp up during the next couple of weeks.
